The Story of Disneyland auction was a 1,000-piece memorbilia collection which sold for $1.7 Million.
We`re going to Disneyland!
Or a few of us had the opportunity to buy parts of its history during a two-day auction held at Van Eaton Galleries with
bids submitted either online or in person.
And bids came from around the world.
The Story of Disneyland
Auction was near a 1,000-piece
collection which spanned four decades of the theme park’s history. Who was the private collector? He/she wished to stay anonymous. Over the weekend, the Disneymania items generated sales of more than $1.7 million by the time the final gavel came down.
I know what you`re thinking... How much did the private collector rake in after the auction house took its cut?
Oh, roughly around $1.4 MILLION!
Makes you just want to clap for the individual or just sick to your stomach because you didn`t think to collect these items.
Highest Bid - 1970s Animatronic Tiki Room Female Bird - $153,400.
Green Bird
Bird is constructed of fiberglass, feathers and wool. This particular green bird was a member of a ‘chorus’ and still had her pneumatic cables and controls mechanisms inside. It’s considered extremely rare.
Second highest - 1967 skeleton from Pirates of the Caribbean - $129,800.
As you can see from our featured photo, it wouldn’t be a real pirate without a chug-a-lug from a bottle and sword in hand.
We`re pretty sure it`s not Captain Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp is alive and well.
Yay!
He is however newly married.
Shucks!
Other pieces which brought in top dollar included a 1965
Pirates of the Caribbean concept painting by animator Marc Davis for $70,800.
A 1954 concept drawing of Disney`s Tomorrowland by Bruce Bushman for $55,460.
And two items that each sold for $47,200 -- a
Pirates of the Caribbean glass E-ticket sign from 1967 and the 1986 H.R. Russell original artwork from the
Captain EO attraction poster.
The Story of Disneyland collection can be found in a 295-page lavishly illustrated catalog sold through Van Eaton Galleries` website.
