We’ve gone mad over
Mad Men.
AMC’s series premiered on July 19, 2007. An American period piece set primarily in the 1960s. Plot centered on one of New York’s most prestigious ad agencies. Main character the top ad man in the business - Don Draper.
We obsessed over personal lives of the characters. Don epitome of a womanizer. Peggy impregnated by Pete. Roger impregnated Joan. Ken lost his right eye in a hunting accident. Betty shot at birds just to quiet their chirps.
Eatin’ grapes off of the wallpaper! (My feeble attempt to use 60s slang.)
Series had a little bit of this and a whole lot of THAT. Seven seasons and ninety-two episodes later, it was over. Last show aired on May 17, 2015.
While many fans speculated Don would jump out of a high-rise building to off himself… No. He didn’t go there. Instead, in the end, Don closed his eyes and mediated into Zen.
“I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony…”
Yeah, like the fans bought
that series finale ending. What they did buy however, was 1,384 pieces of
Mad Men memorabilia. Auction a huge success over at ScreenBid, an online entertainment industry auction website.
Jewelry, art, furniture, radio, clothing – props galore. Cheapest hammer down price brought about $50, on three different lots. A written speech, shirt and tie and an outfit by minor characters.
What did auction buyers go completely mad for to own from
Mad Men?
Don Draper`s 1965 Cadillac Coupe DeVille - $39,500
Ah, yes, the classic Cadillac which Draper drove on the show. That was the big ticket item, however, other memorabilia sold for thousands of dollars as well.
