Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation`s 2nd Annual Inaugural Gala considered the most Outrageous and Amazing Celebrity Auction of all Time - Raised $40 Million!
In other words, it did not sink like the
Titanic.
Who went to the event to help save the planet?
A-List celebrities dressed in sleek designer suits and scantily-clad designer gowns. They were the ones who could afford the invitations which cost between $7,500 and $130,000.
Yes, they paid lots of money to enter the event and even more to buy something at the gala. Oh, what it must be like to be rich and famous.
Though I think most of us would enjoy the ‘rich’ part just the same.
The live auction featured fine art, luxury items and one-off experiences. We all get the fine art and luxury items. What’s an
“One-Off Experience?”
I’ll get back to that.
In attendance were:
Jared Leto (actor), Selema Gomez (singer), Elton John (singer), Kate Hudson (actor), Bono (singer), Naomi Campbell (model), Michelle Rodriguez (actor), Heidi Klum (model), Slyvester Stallone (actor), Adrian Brody (actor), Orlando Bloom (actor) and Albert II Prince of Monaco.
Just to name a few.
Part of DiCaprio’s speech:
“Tonight’s event is about supporting LDF’s efforts to protect key species like the tiger, rhino, shark and mountain gorilla by working with governments to conserve the jungles, coral reefs and forests they call home. By focusing on protecting these critically-endangered iconic species is almost like setting up a worldwide network of Noah’s arks. We`ve decimated our forests, wild lands, polluted and over fished our rivers and oceans; all the key ecosystems that not only serve as a home to our planet’s biodiversity, but also make life here for us possible. I’m incredibly proud to be part of a night that will allow us to do so much to protect the planet.”
Performances at the celebrity auction gala included Elton John and Bono.

After the gala, Leonardo DiCaprio made a statement:
"Over the past year, we have expanded our conservation, public advocacy and direct-support programming to help preserve and protect wildlife in nearly every corner of our planet, but there is still much work to be done. Today, only 12 percent of natural wild lands receive formal protection, and that number is drastically smaller for our oceans, which stands at less than 2 percent."
I will admit that Leonardo was eloquent and passionate. I give him props for his mission as an eco-warrior to save the planet.
His beard however, could really use a trim.
Just saying…
